Northcliffe Outrigger Canoe Club takes great pleasure in inviting
members of your club to compete in a festival of outrigger canoe paddling
culminating in the 42 kilometre Southern Blue Gold Coast Cup. Held on the
weekend of 12th & 13th June 1999, the Cup includes round 6 in the Southern
Qld Zone of the A.O.C.R.A. Grand Prix Series.
Saturday showcases OC6 and OC1 racing short course marathons, and concludes with a presentation of the days racing and briefing for the Gold Coast Cup.
Sunday morning its time for the big ones - the Southern Blue Gold Coast Cup ultra marathon OC6 (9 man, 10 women) changeover race, and the Riggers Australia 2 person changeover OC1 race. (canoes are rigged and set up on beautiful Greenmount Beach, at the southern end of the Gold Coast. Start time is 10.00am for OC6 and OC1. Lined up for the start off Greenmount point, crews race to the first changeover point of Cook Island, then north along the spectacular Gold Coast beach line past Surfers Paradise to the Gold Coast Sea way. Through the Sea way into the Broad water, then the flat-water dash to the finish line. Through the generosity of Southern Blue, suppliers of Tribulus 250 sports supplement, and Riggers Australia through Dukes Long boards, Northcliffe Outriggers is proud to be able to offer $15,000.00 in prize money plus other prizes for the event. Prize money will be distributed equally between Men's and Women's OC6 divisions on a first-past-the-point basis, with all categories as one.
