Wai`anae, O`ahu Hawai`i (February 13 1999) - The 3rd Annual Ahi Fever In Wai'anae Fishing Tournament will be held on June 12&13, 1999 at Wai`anae Boat
Harbor. Presented by Wai`anae Boat Fishing Club, and major sponsors Windward
Boats, Coors Light, Coca Cola, and Shimano, it is assured that this event will
again set the record for largest fishing tournament ever held in Hawai`i.
There will be over $115,000 offered in prizes with 57 ways for the fishermen to win. Some of the grand prizes are: $30,000 SEASWIRL boat and trailer offered for any qualifying fish that beats a Hawai`i state record; $10,000 cash for largest Ahi of the tournament; and $7,000 cash for total weight of Ahi. The winner of the tournament will also have the honor of having his name and boat name engraved on the Ahi Fever Perpetual Trophy which stands seven feet tall and is the largest and most expensive trophy in Hawai’i. In the past two years this event has helped stimulate the economy of the Leeward Coast and raised $10,000 donated to groups such as Wai`anae Boys and Girls Club, four different classes at three different high schools, Na Keiki Preschool, Marine Science Scholarship Fund, Latchum Children's Trust Fund and several youth sports leagues. There will be 260 boat teams allowed in the tournament and it is expected to fill up fast. In 1998, many fishermen waited to long and did not get in. Entry blanks are now available at local fishing supply stores, downloading from website http://www.stkhi.com/ahi-fever/, or by calling 808 696-3399.
