THE 1997 OP PRO SURFING CHAMPIONSHIP
Event: The 16th annual men's Op Pro Surfing Championshipis the first contest in the 1997 G-Shock Triple Crown of Surfing. It is a $60,000,
3-star World Qualifying Series (WQS) event
sanctioned by the Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP).
Event: The $10,000 Women's Op Pro Surfing Championship is the
first women's contest in the 1997 Triple Crown of
Surfing. It is a 3-star WQS women's event on the Coca Cola/ASP World Tour sanctioned by the (ASP).
Event: The 8th annual Op Junior Surfing Championship, now in its second year in Hawai`i, is the only junior contest
in the Triple Crown of Surfing. It offers $2,500 in scholarships to 32, nineteen and under surfers.
Where: All events take place at Alii Beach Park, Haleiwa.
When: The men's and women's holding periods are from November 12 through November 23, 1997. Daily start time: 8 am. The OP Junior holding period is November 15-23. Daily
start time:8 am.

THE RIP CURL WORLD CUP OF SURFING presented by ZEAL OPTICS
THE QUIKSILVER ROXY PRO
Event: The 4-star, $80,000 Rip Curl World Cup of Surfing presented
by Zeal Optics. The World Cup of Surfing, now entering its
22nd year of competition, is the second contest in the
1997 G-SHOCK Triple Crown of Surfing
A 4-star (WQS) event sanctioned by the ASP. This is the
final WQS event and will determine the top qualifiers for the
1998 ASP/WCT Season.
Event: The Quiksilver Roxy Pro. Sanctioned by the ASP. The
Quiksilver women's contests will feature a $12,500,
4-star WQS leading into a $25,000 World
Championship Tour (WCT), and is the finale of the Kahlua women's events on
the Coca Cola/ASP World Tour. The Women's World Champion
is determined upon completion of the finals.
New: The inaugural women's Triple Crown of Surfing Championship will be introduced this year, with a $7,500 winner-take-all-purse
contributed by Kahlua.
Where: Both the Rip Curl World Cup of Surfing and the Quiksilver Roxy Pro will be held at Sunset Beach.
When: Holding Period November 24 to December 6, 1997, excluding
Thanksgiving Day. Competition requires four full days and is
held on the days the surf is biggest and best as
determined by the contest director.

THE 27th ANNUAL CHIEMSEE GERRY LOPEZ PIPE MASTERS
Event: The $120,600 Chiemsee Gerry Lopez Pipe Masters, the final contest in the G-Shock Triple Crown of Surfing. This pioneer
event of professional surfing was founded in 1971
by water sports enthusiast Fred Hemmings. This is the oldest
professional surf competition in the United States.
This event is Sanctioned by the ASP as the final men's WCT
event on the Coca-Cola/ASP World Tour. The
Men's World Champion is determined upon completion of the finals.
The Triple Crown Champion is determined by the number of
points accumulated in all three contests. The 1997
champion will win a $7,500 winner-take-all purse.
The winner will be announced at an awards ceremony
following the final Pipe Masters heat. Kaipo Jaquias
won the 1996 Triple Crown title.
Where: The famous and dangerous Banzai Pipeline break at Ehukai Beach Park on O`ahu's North Shore.
When: Holding Period December 8-December 20, 1997. Competition requires four full days and is held on the days the surf is
biggest and best as determined by the contest director.
